This week, in the run up to Rosh Hashanah, we take another crack at the subject of kosher drinking, and the long intersection between Jewishness and distillation! We are joined for this redux by the wonderful Rachel Bieber, who brings a wealth of personal and familial experience to the table - as well as some great stories from her time working at the Lost Spirits Distillery!
Cocktails Discussed:
Undzer Shtik
2 oz. Single Malt Scotch
1 oz. lime juice
3/4 oz. Drambuie
2 dashes Angostura
Soda water to top
Fresh dill
3-4 slices of cucumber.
Muddle two slices of the cucumber and the dill at the bottom of a shaker, and then add the scotch, lime juice, and Drambuie with ice. Shake until chilled, and fine strain into a highball glass filled with fresh ice. Top with the soda water, add the bitters, and garnish with a slice of cucumber and sprig of dill.
Chag Sameach
2 oz. Badel Stara Sljivovica
1/2 oz. Honey simple syrup
1/2 oz. Luxardo apricot
3/4 oz. fresh apple juice
Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake until well chilled, and strain into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with a apple slice, and serve.
