Reviving Corpses

This week, we are joined by the effervescent Chris Wylie (@gothabillyfrankenstein) to discuss his favorite cocktail, the Corpse Reviver No. 2! Of course, we also take a look into the whole Corpse Reviver family, and try and figure out why there are so many of them, and why is the No. 2 the best of them all?

Recipes Discussed:

Ranch Reviver

1 1/2 oz. Banhez Mezcal

Chilled Topo Chico Mineral Water

2 dashes Angostura Bitters

Inspired by Leo Engel's Criterion Reviver, as published in American & Other Drinks.

Pour the Mezcal into a fizz or coupe glass. Fill the glass the rest of the way with the chilled Topo Chico, and add the bitters to the top. Gently stir, and serve.

The Resurrection

1 oz. Empress 1908 Gin

3/4 oz. Pavan liqueur

3/4 oz. Cocchi Americano

3/4 oz. lemon juice

1/4 oz. Fellows & Foragers Absinthe

Inspired by Alicia Perry's Corpse Reviver No. 2, as published by Punch Magazine.

Pour the absinthe into the bottom of a chilled coupe glass, and set aside. Mix the rest of the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice, and shake until chilled. Gently roll the absinthe around the coupe glass to coat, and discard the excess. Strain the contents of the cocktail shaker into the prepared glass, garnish with a lemon twist, and serve.

Corpse Reviver No.2 A

3/4 oz. gin (We used Mahón Gin)

3/4 oz. lemon juice

3/4 oz. orange liqueur (We used Marian Farms Curaçao)

3/4 oz. Kronan Swedish Punsch

1/4 oz. absinthe
