This week, in preparation for Passover, we take a look at what exactly it means for a spirit to be kosher, and how the Jewish community has shaped the distillation world.
NOTE: Unfortunately, our recording cuts off a bit abruptly at the end of this episode- we apologize for the anti-climactic ending, but we didn't notice that until after publication. Sorry again, and thank you so much for sticking with us through these embarrassing issues while work on getting better.
Recipes Discussed:
Bee's Knees (Shabbos Friendly)
2 oz. gin
1/2 oz. pre-squeezed lemon juice
3/4 oz. honey syrup
Combine all ingredients with ice in a cocktail shaker. Mix by gently pouring from one half of the shaker to the other until chilled (around 10-12 times). Strain into a coupe glass.
Rootless Cosmopolitan
2 oz. Slivovitz
1 oz. Maraska maraschino liqueur
1 oz. Maraska kosher Wishniak Cherry Liqueur
1 oz. lime juice
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake until fully diluted and chilled (~20 seconds). Strain into a chilled cocktail glass, and garnish with a lemon twist.
